      WORK

      Carpe Diem? Yes, please.

The alarm goes off. Or rather, three alarms, because J. and I like to treat ourselves to a little cacophonous concert first thing in the morning. I get up, lured by the prospect of that first mug of coffee. I love it.

But that's not what I wanted to talk about.

Some time ago, it dawned on me that every new day really is that proverbial blank page that I can, to a large extent, fill however I choose.

Something just clicked in my head.

Instead of beating myself up over yesterday's unfinished "whatever-it-was," I feel that I once again (ONCE AGAIN!) have a chance to make a tiny change to the script. This time, maybe move a little more, drink more water, finally scan those photos.

It's amazing how much peace of mind I've gained from such a simple idea.

A nightly reset, and in the morning a sense of agency, a feeling that I can do something again. I'm far from trying to squeeze 150% out of every twenty-four hours. I just don't want to cling to what happened yesterday or get stuck in those "failures."

A long time ago, someone managed to put me off the philosophy of carpe diem for quite a while. Now I can see that, despite everything, they were right.
